We invite everyone to come and rejoice with us in our special service on Sunday, December 18 at our 11:00 AM Service with our special guest, Dr. Donnie Sumner from Nashville TN. Donnie Sunmer, raised the son of a minister is not newcomer to Christian Music. Having devoted over forty years of his life to world of music, Donnie still carries on the traditions his family. Donnie's uncle, J.D. Sumner who was nationally acclaimed as "The World's Lowest Bass Singer". Donnie began his professional career in 1960 with the group "The Songsmen". In 1965 Donnie became the lead vocalist and arranger for J. D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet. In 1970, while with the Stamps, Donnie was awarded both the SESAC Award as "Songwriter of the Year" and a Grammy nomination as "Country Song of the year" for his song, "The Things that Matter". Later that same year Donnie won the Gospel Music Association's prestigious Dove Award as "Song of the Year" for his song entitled "The Night Before Easter". For over 16 years Donnie's life focused upon the "professional music stage". The final six years of his secular career were spent as a co-performer with and a personal aid to the late Elvis Presley. While living in the home of Elvis, his friend and employer and during the same time pursuing his own career in rock music, Donnie found himself totally dependent upon drugs for his existence. In 1976 having experienced an emotional and physical collapse, his world in shambles, consumed by a wish for self-destruction.....Donnie's life was dramatically changed and completely rearranged by the "transforming power of God's saving Grace. In Donnie's own words, "in Jesus there's a NEW LIFE an ABUNDANT LIFE and the hope of ETERNAL LIFE". Donnie's ultimate purpose for his Concert of Praise is to "Exalt Jesus" high enough to allow Him to draw all men unto Himself and that their every need is met and God's name is Glorified. In Donnie's words he moved from "the King of Rock to the King of Kings by the grace of God."
This is not Donnie's first trip to our little church, the Independent Methodist Church here in Mortons Gap. He is a man of God who we have called a dear friend for over 30 years. He and his lovely and talented song writer wife, Marty have always been there when we have needed them. If you need a blessing, a healing or salvation do not miss this service.
There is no fee charged.
